Deturpando as Escrituras
"Nas quais há certas coisas difíceis de entender, que os ignorantes e instáveis deturpam, como também deturpam as demais Escrituras, para a própria destruição seles". II S. Ped. 3:16.
A opinião de que não é de conseqüência alguma o que os homens creiam, é um dos enganos mais bem sucedidos de Satanás. Ele sabe que a verdade, recebida por amor à mesma, santifica a alma de quem a recebe; portanto, está constantemente a procurar substituí-Ia por falsas teorias e fábulas, ou por outro evangelho. ...
As interpretações vagas e imaginosas das Escrituras, as muitas teorias contraditórias concernentes à fé religiosa, as quais se encontram no mundo cristão, são obra de nosso grande adversário para confundir o espírito de tal maneira que não saiba distinguir a verdade. E a discórdia e divisão que há entre as igrejas da cristandade são em grande parte de vidas ao costume que prevalece de torcer as Escrituras, a fim de apoiar uma teoria favorita. Em vez de estudar cuidadosamente a Palavra de Deus com humildade de coração, a fim de obter conhecimento de Sua vontade, muitos procurar apenas descobrir algo singular ou original.
Com o intuito de sustentar doutrinas errôneas ou práticas anticristãs, alguns apanham passagens das Escrituras separadas do contexto, citando talvez a metade de um simples versículo, como prova de seu ponto de vista, quando a parte restante mostraria ser bem contrária o sentido. Com a astúcia da serpente, entrincheiram-se por trás de declarações desconexas, interpretadas de maneira a convir a seus desejos carnais. Muitos assim voluntariamente pervertem a Palavra de Deus. Outros, possuindo ativa imaginação, lançam mão das figuras e símbolos das Escrituras Sagradas, interpretam-nos a seu bel-prazer, tendo em pouca conta o testemunho das Escrituras como seu próprio intérprete, e então apresentam suas fantasias como ensinos da Bíblia.
Quando quer que o estudo das Escrituras se inicie sem espírito de oração, humildade e docilidade, as passagens mais claras e simples, bem como as mais difíceis, serão torcidas do seu verdadeiro sentido. ... A Palavra de Deus é clara a todos os que a estudam com coração devoto. Toda alma verdadeiramente sincera virá à luz da verdade. ... E nenhuma igreja poderá progredir na santificação a menos que seus membros estejam fervorosamente em busca da verdade, como de um tesouro escondido. - GC, 520-522.

La teoría según la cual nada importa lo que los hombres creen, es uno de los engaños que más éxito da a Satanás. Bien sabe él que la verdad recibida con amor santifica el alma del que la recibe; de aquí que trate siempre de sustituirla con falsas teorías, con fábulas y con otro evangelio. . .
Las interpretaciones vagas y fantásticas de las Santas Escrituras, así como las muchas teorías contradictorias respecto a la fe religiosa, que se advierten en el mundo cristiano, son obra de nuestro gran adversario, que trata así de confundir las mentes de suerte que no puedan descubrir la verdad. Y la discordia y la división que existen entre las iglesias de la cristiandad se deben en gran parte a la costumbre tan general de torcer el sentido de las Sagradas Escrituras con el fin de apoyar alguna doctrina favorita. En lugar de estudiar con esmero y con humildad de corazón la Palabra de Dios con el objeto de llegar al conocimiento de su voluntad, muchos procuran descubrir algo curioso y original.
Con el fin de sostener doctrinas erróneas o prácticas anticristianas, hay quienes toman pasajes de la Sagrada Escritura aislados del contexto, no citan tal vez más que la mitad de un versículo para probar su idea, y dejan la segunda mitad que quizá hubiese probado todo lo contrario. Con la astucia de la serpiente se encastillan tras declaraciones sin ilación, entretejidas de manera que favorezcan sus deseos carnales. Es así como gran número de personas pervierten con propósito deliberado la Palabra de Dios. Otros, dotados de viva imaginación, toman figuras y símbolos de las Sagradas Escrituras y los interpretan según su capricho, sin parar mientes en que la Escritura declara ser su propio intérprete; y luego presentan sus extravagancias como enseñanzas de la Biblia.
Siempre que uno se da al estudio de las Escrituras sin estar animado de un espíritu de oración y humildad, susceptible de recibir enseñanza, los pasajes más claros y sencillos, como los más difíciles, serán desviados de su verdadero sentido. . .
La Palabra de Dios es clara para todos aquellos que la estudian con espíritu de oración. Toda alma verdaderamente sincera alcanzará la luz de la verdad.*

The position that it is of no consequence what men believe is one of Satan"s most successful deceptions. He knows that the truth, received in the love of it, sanctifies the soul of the receiver; therefore he is constantly seeking to substitute false theories, fables, another gospel. . . . {Mar 132.1}
The vague and fanciful interpretations of Scripture, and the many conflicting theories concerning religious faith, that are found in the Christian world are the work of our great adversary to confuse minds so that they shall not discern the truth. And the discord and division which exist among the churches of Christendom are in a great measure due to the prevailing custom of wresting the Scriptures to support a favourite theory. Instead of carefully studying God"s word with humility of heart to obtain a knowledge of His will, many seek only to discover something odd or original. {Mar 132.2}
In order to sustain erroneous doctrines or unchristian practices, some will seize upon passages of Scripture separated from the context, perhaps quoting half of a single verse as proving their point, when the remaining portion would show the meaning to be quite the opposite. With the cunning of the serpent they entrench themselves behind disconnected utterances construed to suit their carnal desires. Thus do many wilfully pervert the word of God. Others, who have an active imagination, seize upon the figures and symbols of Holy Writ, interpret them to suit their fancy, with little regard to the testimony of Scripture as its own interpreter, and then they present their vagaries as the teachings of the Bible. {Mar 132.3}
Whenever the study of the Scriptures is entered upon without a prayerful, humble, teachable spirit, the plainest and simplest as well as the most difficult passages will be wrested from their true meaning. . . . The Word of God is plain to all who study it with a prayerful heart. Every truly honest soul will come to the light of truth. "Light is sown for the righteous." Psalm 97:11. And no church can advance in holiness unless its members are earnestly seeking for truth as for hid treasure. {Mar 132.4}
